THE WOMEN WHO WALKED
The Her Smile Runway
Eleven women. One runway. Every one of them a real Her Smile client.
In 2023, Her Smile held its inaugural High Tea and Fashion Show at The Abbey in Canberra. One hundred tickets, completely sold out. Families and friends of our clients travelled from as far north as Maroochydore in Queensland and as far south as Adelaide to watch their women walk.
These were not models. They were mothers, grandmothers, professionals and survivors, women who had each done the quiet, unglamorous work of coming back to themselves through the Her Smile Empowerment Pathway. On that runway, in front of the people who love them, each one was seen.
These ladies were interviewed on stage by Miss Galaxy Australia, Emily Egan. The Wiggles' own Min-Ah Kim and Bo Jeong, a mother and daughter duo, performed live. My daughter Kirsten hosted and sang Brave. The event raised funds for the YWCA Y Homes Project, supporting older women and women escaping domestic violence because visibility for women is the whole point, on the runway and off it.
Over eleven weeks, we are celebrating each of these women in the order they walked. One woman. One story. One week at a time.
